Description
The Ward Host/ess is responsible for ordering and serving of meals and beverages to patients and visitors where necessary. The Ward Host/ess is responsible for the hygiene and cleanliness in his/her Ward kitchen, ordering of Issues and stock take of cutlery and crockery on a daily basis.
- Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualifications
- Degree/Diploma in Hospitality or equivalent recognized qualification
- Atleast two years in a similar position ( Preferably in a hospital setting)
- Able to speak, read and understand English. Good communication skills are important
- Knowledge of hospital catering, different special diets and the preparation thereof, special diet abbreviations, customer service, tray set ups, uses of different cutlery and crockery
- Be able and available to work shifts, including weekends
- Be able and available to complete any reasonable tasks as delegated by the Catering Manager, Supervisor or Hospital Manager
- Knowledge of therapeutic diet
- To attend to problems encountered in the ward regarding the patients, visitors or nursing staff
- Serving meals to the patients, together with the nurses at the quickest possible rate to ensure that hot food is served hot
- Managing and controlling the stock that is taken to the ward
- Conducting ward rounds, before and after meal service to eliminate patients from being missed for meal service and check on the patients ward stay wellbeing
- Respond to patients ringing the bell and allocate the request accordindly
